Community Service

Troop 1175 is actively involved in the community and demonstrates that “a Scout is Helpful” on a regular basis. Our Scouts have done numerous projects in our local community and beyond, including:

  • Converting an abandoned school in Puerto Rico into a community hydroponic farm and research center
  • Renovating the entrance to the House of Bread in Hartford
  • Installing and maintaining multiple “tiny libraries” around the Simsbury area
  • Building butterfly houses and restoring fences in Simsbury
  • Building mobile herb gardens for Simsbury Seniors
  • Removing invasive species around Simsbury
  • Wetland preservation in Avon
  • Trail improvements across the Farmington Valley
  • Many local food drives and trash pickups
  • And more…

Maintaining the Scout Tradition of Public Service

When the Covid Virus hit in 2020, we canceled in-person meetings and met over Zoom. But we wanted to help so we mobilized the Troop to make Face Shields to distribute to local hospitals who were desperate for these safety devices. We made kits that Scouts could assemble at home and met outdoors for mass production. We produced over 2,400 face shields to help supply the front-line health care workers.
